1. How does it feel to be Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2015 Winner?
I still can’t quite believe it. It means such a lot to me in terms of my own practice, I just feel so happy! I feel like I’ve really been able to build momentum with my work and develop more in my own practice because I’ve been able to focus so intently on my work and to win on top of that was amazing.
2. Your commission was absolutely stunning; can you take us through the high level process of how you achieved this image?
I spent a lot of time planning the composition and once I was happy with this I focused on building different ground layers within sections of the canvas so I could create different effects of light in each area. I then used oils in layers to create the detail to the work and build the imagery.
3. What are your next steps?
I really want to continue building momentum with my work and bring more of my work to exhibition. I have a lot of new ideas I’d like to explore compositionally and on a larger scale so I just want to paint as much as possible!
