Original Contemporary Wildlife Portrait Painting by Diane Griffiths.
Acrylic on 1.5″ box canvas with painted sides, 76x51cm/30×20″ (2016).
This lion was inspired by a photo I took during the open day at the Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden near Ashford in Kent. My inspiration was an African lion who was relaxing in the sun looking rather contemplative. His mane was enormous; wavy hair surrounded his face and reached out way beyond his facial features.
Lions are seen as the ‘king of the jungle’ and the royal touch of blue helps to portray his majestic beauty and strength. I’m really pleased with this piece. You are initially drawn to the eyes and then follow the movement of the mane around the painting; it’s a fluid painting with the lion emerging from the centre.
St Michael’s Mount Sunset
Original Contemporary Cornish Landscape Painting by Cornish Artist Diane Griffiths.
Acrylic and enamel on canvas with painted sides, 76x61cm/30×24″ (2016).
This is a large, bright and uplifting painting of a magical place drenched in magical colours. The sky is a compositional flurry of clouds, saturated with the rich buttery energetic colours of the setting sun. St Michael’s Mount sits majestically on the horizontal with the causeway stretching across the canvas.
