Wheal Coates Painting

Buy Cornwall Art – Original Contemporary Cornish Landscape Painting by Cornish Artist Diane Griffiths

A harmonious painting on canvas with a sweeping blend of pinks surrounding Wheal Coates. It provides a contemporary impressionistic and atmospheric painting of Towanroath engine house at the Wheal Coates site. Situated on the stunning St Agnes Heritage coastline on the North Cornwall coast and with breathtaking cliff-top views, this iconic mine is managed by the National Trust.  In this painting you can walk straight into the picture and onto the South West coastal path.

Work in Progress

Wheal Coates Painting

I’m just adding some finishing highlight touches to the tin mine. It’s all too easy to have elements of a painting which don’t sit together, particularly if you work on each element separately. I usually start with the sky, then work forward – but I do try to work more in layers rather than elements to keep the colour and light consistency. In these final touches I’m ensuring that the sky, land and tin mine fit together.
