Boats on the Gannel
Original Contemporary Cornish Landscape Painting by Cornish Artist Diane Griffiths.
Acrylic and enamel on Gerstaecker cotton canvas with painted sides, 50x50cm/20×20″ (2017).
The Gannel (Cornish: An Ganel, meaning the Channel) becomes a tidal estuary as it nears the sea and divides Newquay from Crantock. The difference from low to high tide means that this is an ever changing landscape where you can walk it at low tide and admire the boats bobbing on the water at high tide. In this painting The Gannel is filling up as our final boat in the foreground patiently waits for high tide.
