Sandy Crantock Beach
Original Contemporary Cornish Petite Painting by Cornish Artist Diane Griffiths.
Acrylic and enamel on Clairefontaine natural canvas board, 30x30cm/12×12″ (2017).
This was inspired by a walk from Pentire, across the Gannel to Penpol, then around Crantock and over to Porth Joke. This particular angle was from the dunes at Crantock. It wasn’t a sunny day, it was quite overcast, yet the dusty colours from the sand dunes inspired this dusty sandy painting.
Work in Progress
In this first picture I have the basics of the sky in place and I’ve crudely drafted out the cliff line and some of the darker patches of the dunes. In the second picture I’ve built up more of my layers and you can see the exposed raw colours in some places and the water sitting on the canvas.
Clairefontaine Natural Canvas Boards are 3mm boards covered with natural canvas which is 75% cotton and 25% polyester. I really like working with this type of canvas board for my smaller paintings, the natural texture of the canvas gives me a unique starting point for my paintings. Daler Rowney Acrylic System 3 original acrylic paint are the acrylics of my choice; I use a mixture of acrylic and enamel paints in my artwork.
