Lion Painting
Original Contemporary Lion Wildlife Portrait Painting
By Artist Diane Griffiths
This lion was inspired by a photo I took during the open day at the Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden near Ashford in Kent. My inspiration was an African lion who was relaxing in the sun looking rather contemplative. His mane was enormous; wavy hair surrounded his face and reached out way beyond his facial features.
Lions are seen as the ‘king of the jungle’ and the royal touch of blue helps to portray his majestic beauty and strength. I’m really pleased with this piece. You are initially drawn to the eyes and then follow the movement of the mane around the painting; it’s a fluid painting with the lion emerging from the centre.
