Getting Ready
I love getting artwork ready for exhibitions. This one has extra jeopardy though, because I’ve submitted 3 paintings, but I’m not sure whether they will get accepted!
After a Newquay Society of Artists demo with artist John Forward I reached out to him after the demo to ask him more about the St Ives Society of Artists. Being based in Bude, I was surprised he was part of the society and never thought about taking part from the great distance of Newquay!
Looking at their website it didn't look like submissions were open for artists to join the society, but John suggested I submit for their next Open Exhibition - that way I would be on their books next time submissions opened.
This sounded like fair advice and I started tracking the website to see when this was. I didn't have long to wait - the Open Spring Exhibition was annouced and I started painting!
In the run up to the drop-off I ensured I had everything ready, I wanted my paintings to be framed and displayed well. Coming up with painting names is always fun, but I didn't just want to describe the painting subject/location in the title - I wanted something I little more thoughtful.
Dropping off my Paintings 20/4/24
Today was the drop-off day for the Spring Open Exhibition at the Mariners’ Gallery with St Ives Society of Artists. I haven’t taken part in this before, I’m excited to have finally dipped my toe into the St Ives art scene!
We’ve been very lucky with the weather and I was able to stroll around St Ives with my camera soaking up inspiration.
Accepted! 25/4/24
Out of my three submissions I'm pleased that one of them has been selected for the exhibition in the Mariners Gallery, Norway Square, St Ives TR26 1NA! I'm looking forward to going and seeing it in that amazing space, seeing the other artwork and shamelessly taking photos like a proud parent!
Exhibition is 25th April - 7th June. 10am - 5pm Monday-Saturday.
The Exhibition 3/4/24
This is a very British thing to say but we were very lucky with the weather this weekend as we headed back to St lves to visit the St lves Society of Artists Spring Open Exhibition. Parking at St Erth and taking the 10 minute train ride into St Ives is truly the best and least stressful way to get there.
The exhibition itself looked stunning. With over 200 artworks on show there was a lot to take in. I found it interesting to see the different areas of exhibition; where floral, abstract and landscape works were grouped together. You can see the effort that must have gone in to make up the collections and ultimately, the exhibition as a whole. It's an amazing space and very inspiring to see all the local art in one location.
The exhibition is running until the 7th June. Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm. It's well worth a visit!
