This painting captures the serene beauty of this harbour town under a starry sky. The calm waters reflect the soft glow of moonlight and with the iconic harbour silhouettes creating a contrast against the blue hues of the night. I find painting harbours and boats quite tricky so it’s nice to distil the complexity of the harbour into simple but recognisable outlines. It’s a peaceful atmosphere with exaggerated shadows creating the main structure in this image, driving your eye up the harbour and out to sea.
