Evening at St Michael's Mount Postcard

One of the wonders of Cornwall is this magical island sitting just off the south coast of Cornwall. The castle of St Michael’s Mount sits at the end of a causeway, uncovered only by low tide. I remember setting up my camera and tripod, in my flip flops, on not a warm evening I might add, but completely worth it as the reference photos from that evening helped me to create this painting. It was one of my first night paintings and sold within 30 minutes of advertising on social media! This is not a usual occurrence for me, therefore I knew I had something special with this approach. I knew I had to do more.

Postcards are a simple cheap way to collect your favourite art. I used to love collecting postcards when I visited galleries of my favourite artists; racking up my collection of Van Gogh, Monet, Corot, Pissarro, Degas and many more.

I also always used to collect postcards when I went on holiday, collecting tokens of all the places I've visited. Often picking an arial view, they were less prolific back then before drones, and I enjoyed seeing a different view of the place I was visiting.

I've enjoyed putting together these postcards which are a mix of the two. A token of holiday memories as well as reproduction of some of my favourite paintings.
